SETTING UP YOUR LINK-MICRO-LTE CELLULAR TRAIL CAMERA

Person holding a LINK-MICRO-LTE with AA batteries inside

Choose a power source (SOLD SEPARATELY)

We recommend using the SPYPOINT #LIT-10 rechargeable lithium battery pack, sold separately.

For AA batteries, unlock the latch and open the LINK-MICRO-LTE door. Remove the battery compartment by grasping it by the 2 small notches on the side and pulling it out. Insert brand new AA batteries into the battery holder being careful to follow the polarity (+) and (-) indications.

Place the battery holder back into the battery compartment.

Remove the antenna mount and point the antenna in the desired direction.

Person inserting a microSD card in a LINK-MICRO-LTE

Format and install the microSD card (SOLD SEPARATELY)

Before inserting the microSD card into your camera, it must be formatted by a computer to ensure proper operations.

Once the card is formatted, make sure the camera is turned OFF. Find the microSD card slot located on the left, above the battery compartment. Insert the card into the slot with the metal contacts facing down. The card is inserted correctly when a click is heard.

Person adding a camera on their SPYPOINT app

Activate the camera and release the antenna

Activate the camera on the SPYPOINT website or app using the activation code located inside the LINK-MICRO-LTE's battery compartment, then configure the camera's settings.

Remove the antenna mount to adjust the antenna during installation.

Man installing LINK-MICRO-LTE

Install and start the camera

Choose a location for your camera and install it using the installation strap (included).

Adjust the height of the camera to aim for the subject's mid-body.

Avoid leaves, branches or tall grass in front of the camera as this can trigger motion detection resulting in blank photos.

Follow the checklist on the inside of the camera's door to start the device.

TROUBLESHOOTING

The camera is not receiving a cellular signal.

Verify the coverage area of the cellular network to make sure it reaches your area. Move your device to other locations to search for a stronger signal. Turn the device OFF and ON between the attempts. Make sure the antenna is installed properly (securely screwed down). Use the long range cellular antenna #CA-01 if necessary (sold separately).

The camera is no longer responding.

Make sure the batteries are sufficiently charged. NOTE: to verify the charge level, go to the STATUS section of your app and verify the battery % displayed. Don’t forget that the indicated status is from the last transfer. Also, when turning on the camera, if the status light flashes red quickly, it indicates that the battery’s charge is low. Turn the camera OFF and ON again. Remove and re-insert the battery compartment in the camera. From the app, reset the device to its original state. Perform the latest firmware update.

The camera doesn't take pictures.

Make sure the camera is turned ON. If it is not already done, remove the protective sticker on the detection lens of your camera. Format the microSD card. Do not choose the “Quick format” option. In your app, in your configurations, verify the operating periods you selected. Make sure the camera is not outside the operating periods. If none of the previous solutions works, reset the camera and the settings.

The camera is not transmitting photos.

Verify if the signal strength received by your device is sufficient. Make sure you have not reached the photo limit of your cellular plan. Verify if there is a message in the Photo section of your app: you will receive a notification if your camera is active, but no motion was detected. In those conditions, it is normal that your microSD card and your app did not receive new photos. Note that photos older than 7 days won’t be transferred. How to distinguish between “taking pictures” and “transmitting pictures” from your camera to your app: they are two distinct camera functions. If your microSD card contains photos, the camera has no problem taking photos. If your microSD card is empty (doesn’t contain photos), put it back in the camera and reboot your camera. Make a movement in front of the camera for it to take a photo. If there are still no photos on your microSD card, there is an issue with taking photos. If one or many photos are added to your microSD card once you have moved in front of your camera, after turning the camera off and on again, it should transfer them to your app in the next 15 minutes at most. Otherwise, there is an issue with photo transmission.

The batteries are draining fast.

The following configurations of your camera affect power consumption: delay between shots, multi-shots, detection sensibility, transfer frequency, and photo quality. If possible, choose less power-consuming options to optimize the life of your batteries.

Not the easiest to set up..
These weren't the easiest to set up but now that they are working it's pretty cool. We got a barn cat and wanted to make sure she was still around and not raccoons eating her food. They do take black and white and color photos. I love the convenience of the photos coming right to my phone!

This shipped to my house faster than most things I order on Amazon. Ordering things to northern Michigan usually takes a week minimum but this came in a day and works perfect.

This review is being submitted after almost a year of owning this product. I was excited to get this as my first trail camera back in November 2020. Set up was easy, cell service worked well even in the rural county I live in. Lots of options for adjusting picture schedule and frequency. Picture quality is not as good as what I see from other cameras, but this is significantly cheaper. I went with the spypoint camera because I wanted the option of a free photo transmission plan (100 photos per month free). I guess you get what you pay for.

In July, the camera stopped sending pictures to my phone. Turns out it wasn't taking pictures anymore. I retrieved the camera and went through Spypoint's troubleshooting website. They have a very detailed troubleshooting website with lots of videos. I went step by step through it, and did everything they suggested. New batteries, new class 10 SD card (max 32 gb), updated the firmware, etc. No luck, camera still won't send pictures. Contacted their customer support by live chat (good luck getting through on telephone). Went through all of the troubleshooting steps again, they said it will be fixed tomorrow, no luck. No pictures still. Contacted them again via live chat, said I want to return for warranty (2 year warranty on camera). They said "oh no, wait, I can see your camera doesn't have ****.exe installed, I've sent that now and you will start getting pictures in 24-48 hours". 24-48 hours go by, still no pictures. I contact them a third time via live chat, say I want to return this under warranty and I'm not going through any more troubleshooting. Woman on live chat says no, we need to troubleshoot more. I say I want to talk to a manager. She ignores me and then disconnects the chat. I have now given up on fixing the camera. Worked great for 9 months, now a useless brick. Company is not willing to stand by their 2 year warranty. Buyer beware.

For the price of the camera, I have been very happy with it. It takes clear pictures and the monthly fee for the unlimited plan is reasonable. The only problem I have is, it seems although I feel I have set the plan not to renew, it does! Maybe there is a step I am missing but this has happened a few times..

I ordered this because the price was low and I wanted to try a cellular trail cam in my woods. I have many years of experience with trail cams. Setup, activation and testing was quick and easy so that's a plus. The quality of the photos that get sent to your phone is terrible. 40 kilobyte files that have nearly zero resolution. You can see that its probably a deer and maybe that it has antlers or not but much more than that? No. This is most likely a bait and switch tactic to get you to buy 50 "HD" picture downloads for $5. No HD downloads are included in the "Premium" unlimited plan if that makes any sense to you. It doesn't make any to me. I can't comment on battery life yet since I just put it up today. Here's the big problem... The focal distance of the lens is NOT wide angle. It has a very small coverage area. Its almost a telephoto lens in its coverage which is a real problem for a trail camera. You need to see a WIDE area when using trail cameras to mark game, not a narrow field of view like this camera has. Poor design or, it is intentional to get you to use more cameras to cover the area properly. Either way it is a deal breaker and I won't be buying from this manufacturer again.
