This thing is a BEAST in every way! UPDATE....

This thing is a BEAST in every way! UPDATE....
After spending many hours watching Youtube reviews and researching steel types, listening to my son (who is a Spyderco freak), reading Amazon reviews and trying to justify the $85 bucks for the purchase.... let me tell you, I am NOT disappointed!!! All those weenies who cried about it being a 'thumb buster' need to grow a pair. NO WAY this knife is going to accidentally close, and I like the fact is has a firm liner lock for safety. The blade is THICK and hair shaving sharp on arrival. The textured G10 scales and the jimping on the blade spine give an unparalleled grip surface... you KNOW you have a knife in your hand. The nylon sheath is heavy duty, molle compatible, and has reinforcements for belt or vest carry. A heavy duty pocket clip can be adjusted for left or right tip up carry. The BOS heat treated 154-CM steel blade has a good cutting surface and a spear point for finer work.UPDATE: I've carried this knife for years (2013). I'm an EMR with CERT and have responded a number of times to various emergencies. This knife has yet to fail me in any way. I've since bought the Buck Knives 0690BKSTP TOPS / Buck CSAR-T Fixed Blade Tactical Knife and the Buck Knives 680 CSAR-T Liaison Tactical Knife with M.O.L.L.E. compatible sheath but what really made this a "one tool option" was the Buck Knives 0680SSS Hex Tool Set for Tops / Buck Csar-t Knives. You can't beat quality with gadgets and flash. This is not a 'big' knife, but if I was going to choose a word to describe it.... I would call it substantial!* interesting side note - I also have a Schrade SCHF1SM Extreme Survival fixed blade that has 1/4" drive tools in the handle which fit the 1/4" slot in the handle of this knife. Pretty cool if you ask me.P.S. - I've had this knife awhile now, and put it to use on some fairly substantial tasks... and I'm STILL not disappointed. Though I have discovered I'm not a big fan of tip-up pocket carry (personal preference) and the sheath is not as pictured. It does not have a button snap closure, but it has one of those 'squeeze-clip' type closures that are a pain to close if you can't see to guide it into the slot if you hip carry. So aside from not having a tip-down carry option, and the sheath inconvenience (though it is a well made sheath)... this is a knife you can give to your kid someday ( if I can lure him away from Spyderco).

...I could go on a while about the CSAR-T Pro for a while, but really, the first reviewer does a good job explaining things about this tank-of-a-folder. If you want an over-built super-duty-427 Tri-power of a knife which is made for extreme use - this is it. The price is amazing at under $100 - I think you get twice the knife (at least) for the money. Field and Stream gave it it's "best of the best" award, and I can see (AND FEEL) why. The blade is VERY thick (thicker than the Spyderco Mili.); it came hair popping sharp; has an actually belly, which is not normal in tanto style blades; has great jimping on top; did I say it was larger than it measures?? When you open this thing, I swear if you listen closely you can hear it rumble!! This knife has awesomely textured G-10 scales which give you gripping power and good comfort (considering it's size and weight). There's a lot of steel in this thing, so it's heavy, but I don't care. The upsides and collectibility are amazing. I may buy another one! It's also a good comparison to other much more expensive tank-like folders out there (ZT etc.). I think this knife would hold up well in combat, survival, and other extreme situations. It would do awesome as a blunt force object (if closed), and a small hand-axe for chopping tinder and kindling. ATS34 is a upper quality steel which had it's best days in the 90's - it's the Japanese version of CM154 (USA). This steel has good toughness, good corrosion resistence and good edge holding ability - so, it's good across the board. The CSAR-T is a handsome knife, both open and closed, but is barely EDC capable (I carried it around for a few days and really it wasn't too bad; not a knife you want to display to the public and not a gentleman's/business man's knife either) - the handle is about 5/8's+ wide and it's about 9 oz. The included/free Cordura sheath is awesome and perfectly matched to the knife - it's worth $15 or so by itself. This is a raw hunting/combat/self-defense/enthusiast/collector's folder. Extreme/Purist hikers and campers who scoff at weight may want to seek ligher versions of this folder ("Avid").

Ok - a few hits... As a few have said the blade doesn't center on mine when closed and it actually rubs a bit on the liners when in the act of closing it (I have the same issue on a Vantage Avid folder); this doesn't bother me as much, because this blade is do thick, it barely fits between the liners anyway. Getting it lined up may not be so easy (and the liner lock is the reason for this). The liner-lock is sprung so tight, that it presses against the blade and it get's out of center; the liner-lock is very, very tight on this knife (almost too much), but for such a heavy duty knife, I don't mind it all that much - it keeps it locked up really vault solid. The blade action is smooth and it deploys quickly - so, no issues there. Sure, this knife could be lightened a little bit, and there are a few things that could be improved. I love it the way it is. Is it better than the Spyderco Mili??
Maybe for some applications, and not for others - definitely not weight or steel (in my opinion). It's hands-down a sturdier knife, and a prettier one too. They both have a very high place in my collection for big ballsy folders.
You won't be disappointed with this purchase. Looks like I went on about it anyway... Fistful

5.0 out of 5 stars Das, DAS ist ein Messer !
Reviewed in Germany on February 11, 2014
